Customer Requirement:

Build a crate sturdy enough to handle the abuse of travel by ground, air and sea.  The crate needs to incorporate a base strong enough to handle a unit weighing 2500 lbs.  The crate needs to accommodate a ramp as well as casters for easy movement while loading and offloading.

Initial Drawing

PSI Design staff will create a rough draft of the crate utilizing materials such as hardware, lumber and plywood that are cost competitive while meeting or exceeding the strength requirements.

Once the rendering is sketched out it is sent over to an engineer where a 3D model is created in Solidworks.  This 3 dimensional model will allow the engineer to manipulate the materials and design as required, quickly and precisely.

The CAD drawing is sent out to estimating with a cut sheet including all the materials needed to manufacture the crate.

Once Estimating has created the quote, the drawing and quote are sent out to the customer for approval.  Upon approval, a first article is created by our Woodshop utilizing the cut sheet and drawing from Design.  This first article is then shipped to the customer for final approval.

Open Crate

After the first article is approved, PSI will then load all the information into our system and create a part number.  Our woodshop will then produce these crates in whatever quantity our customer requires.  Our customer has the ability to make future changes as their part changes in size over time.  PSI can quickly accommodate these changes by utilizing our CAD program and modifying the crate where applicable per the customer part specifications.
